IS BOTTLE WATER SAFE?
 |
Many
have switched to bottled water under the
false assumption that its purity is
assured to be better than tap. The truth is that bottled
water is not regulated to the same
standards as tap water.
The
challenge for the consumer is determining
what is in these expensive bottles and are
they really worth the price.
-
Government studies indicate
that an estimated 25 percent or more of
bottled water is really just
tap water in a bottle
-- sometimes further treated, sometimes not.
-
Some plastics used in bottles
have been shown to contain cancer-causing
chemicals.
-
Billions
of gallons of oil are required to produced
the plastic bottles, and the vast majority
are not recycled.
A four
year study conducted by the National
Resource Defense Council (NRDC) found that
government bottled water regulations have
serious deficiencies and it should not
automatically be assumed that bottled water
does not contain contaminants.
